The submucosal plexus is stained with Anna-1 in green (neuronal cell bodies) and TUJ1 in red (neuronal projections).
This view is from the epithelial side of the tissue with the epithelium removed with forceps prior to staining.

The glia and projections are closely associated with one another. There are no occasions where projections are "bare" even at 8days of development when the wave of differentiation has not reached the end of the hindgut.

How did this occur? Is the arrangement of the glia along neuronal projections merely a consequence of the pattern of "blank" spaces with cells in between or is there some real organization to the glia actually "coating" the projections?
