My major research interests are in developing novel imaging tools to explore long standing issues in developmental and neuro- biology. My major focus is on creating and applying new microscopic magnetic resonance imaging (µMRI) techniques to elucidate problems that have proved intransigent to other imaging modalities. These questions typically necessitate examining the internal workings of live optically opaque specimens over time. Ongoing research projects are very broad, ranging from understanding the cell movements and contacts involved in inducing the vertebrate nervous system, following the development of neurodegenerative disease in animal models, to phenotyping of transgenic mice. Active collaborations, with researchers both inside and outside the Biological Imaging Center, permit this broad set of research goals.
